Take Me Out To The Ball Game

Last week, the summer associates had the opportunity to attend a baseball game at Dodger Stadium. The event was unplanned, but an attorney decided that this was too good to pass up when he managed to get us tickets right near the dugout. We left the office at 6:30 p.m. and made our way to the stadium, which was packed with boisterous, excited fans. I had been to a baseball game once before, when I watched the Oakland A’s play one summer, but I’d never seen the game so close-up.

We found our seats, ordered hot dogs, beer, and Cracker Jacks, and sat back to enjoy the game. Since the Dodgers and the Angels are both top teams this year, it was an exciting game to watch. The Los Angeles Kings brought their newly-won Stanley Cup to the stadium, and opened the game with a ceremonial first pitch. The Dodgers scored in the first inning, but the Angels quickly caught up, scoring a run in the second inning and tying the game. The Angels scored again at the bottom of the 9th, and we all waited with baited breath to see whether the Dodgers would come back before the game ended.

The stands were almost as interesting as the game. We looked up at the huge screens above the diamond and witnessed a "Will you marry me?” moment, which turned out to be happening right next to us. Naturally, she said yes. And at one point, someone leaned over and said, "Hey, is that Winona Ryder over there?” And sure enough, there she was, sitting one section over in a blazer and a long pony tail. To the great dismay of many fans, the Dodgers lost the game, but for me, it was a very memorable evening.
