"Too often people come in and say I need a mentor who looks and acts like me and that is actually not the case. I think you need people who will take an interest in you both professionally and personally ... You need people who can teach you to be a professional success and you need people who are visionaries, who not only have you look at what you want to be today, but what you want to be tomorrow."

On Wendell Taylor as told by one of his mentees, Lia Der Marderosian: "I met Wendell on my first day at the firm. I was a summer associate and he was assigned to be my associate mentor. I still remember how nervous I was but, from the very beginning, Wendell helped ease my fears, making me feel like I had a friend who was looking out for me from the start. During that summer, he advised me on everything from specific work assignments, to which practice areas he thought I would enjoy most, to what I should think about when deciding whether to accept a full-time position. By the end of the summer, I knew he was the ideal mentor for me.
Very little has changed since those first few months. Although Wendell’s role as my official mentor ended when I finished the summer program, he has continued to be my unofficial mentor ever since. The two things I appreciate most about Wendell are that he always has my best interest in mind and that he never hesitates to take the time to guide me in the right direction. I regularly seek his advice and guidance and he never fails to give me thoughtful suggestions and honest feedback. Whether by luck or design, Wendell was assigned to be my summer associate mentor and, as a result, I now have a career-long mentor, trusted advisor and close friend."

"Just five years before I was married, the Supreme Court decided a case that was captioned United States v. Loving. Before that point in time, many states in the United States made it a felony, a crime for people of two different races to get married. I am Chinese, my wife is Caucasian, and it ... tells you just how different the environment and the atmosphere were for couples who were thinking of having biracial children and deciding where to raise them."

“Our success as a law firm has everything to do with working effectively as a team, and that’s a team in the obvious sense of the word. It’s senior lawyers, more junior lawyers, it’s summer associates, it’s our staff and paralegals and it’s also the client. And it is working together to get the best result moving from Point A to Point B and doing it quickly. [In addition], I feel supported at this law firm, [and] I’ve always felt supported. I feel supported on my cases, and, when necessary, I’ve felt supported in my personal and family life.”

"What I really enjoy is the fact that the clients we work with, the issues we work on, are really the issues that are important to the country, [to] the markets ... The issues we work on frequently show up on the pages of the Wall Street Journal, in the New York Times, and it's very exciting to be working on business issues but looking at the legal aspect of it."

"I developed close relationships with a few people that I’ve worked with over the years and I’m absolutely comfortable asking them any questions about my career and they took a personal interest in me for which I’m grateful."
