Tom McKay

Tom McCay is a summer associate in our New York office. He expects to graduate from Georgetown Law School in 2012. During his 1L summer, Tom clerked for the Honorable Gerard E. Lynch on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Prior to law school, he worked for the International Rescue Committee in Nairobi, Kenya. Tom received his undergraduate degree in Politics from Princeton University.

Last night, after convening for pizza at the office, we walked over to Broadway and attended the production Jersey Boys. The show tells the true story of The Four Seasons, one of the most successful rock groups of the 60's.

One great aspect about WilmerHale is the fact that all members of the firm are encouraged to work on pro bono matters. This summer, four other summer associates and I will be participating in the Courtroom Advocates Project.

Last week, New York summer associates had the privilege of attending a session on trial techniques taught by resident WilmerHale legend Jerry Facher. Along with litigation partner Peter MacDonald, Jerry went over some of key "do's" and "don'ts" of cross-examination, sprinkling in wisdom gained from decades of trial experience along the way.

As a law student, you hear a lot about the infamous 2L summer, where law firms wine and dine you with extravagant summer events. But I have always been the type who prefers a couple slices of pizza to the roast duck with mango salsa, so one can only imagine my delight when I learned that our first New York summer event concluded with a stop at Grimaldi's, the world famous pizza place located in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Speaking with attorneys at the various WilmerHale social events, I find that the most interesting question to ask them is usually how they found their way to the firm. No two paths are quite the same. As this is my first blog past, I suppose I will begin with a little summary of my own path to WilmerHale.
