I flew back to London last Thursday after the conclusion of my telecom. arbitration hearing in Munich—another hearing done and dusted! Now we have to knuckle down to prepare the post-hearing briefs before Christmas, which ...

The clock is ticking down to the start of our telecom hearing in Munich, and over the last few weeks I have been locked away with my witness statements and pleadings for the company, drafting cross-examination scripts for the hearing and organizing witness preparation for our own witnesses. No excuse, I know, for the fact that I have been off the blogging reservation since the end of August!

They say that a tidy office is a tidy mind. Whoever came up with that saying would take one look at my office right now, and run screaming in the other direction. But just because my office looks like a tornado has passed through it (several times), doesn't mean that I don't know where things are. Also, having an untidy desk at least creates the impression that you're sooo incredibly busy, you don't have the time to deal with the tottering pile of lever-arch folders perched precariously on the middle of your desk. Creating such an impression is definitely a good thing as far as I'm concerned. I think a partner looks at a tidy desk and doesn't think "tidy mind". He/she is thinking "if they've got time to tidy their desk, they must have capacity!"

It’s been a couple of weeks since my last blog entry, because (you've guessed it) the tsunami of work that was threatening to come my way over the last month or so finally hit with full force! Like the metaphorical buses that all come at once, my insurance arbitration and telecommunications arbitration have come back to life with a vengeance. I've got less than two weeks to draft two rebuttal witness statements from scratch for my telecom arbitration and then we will have to start proper preparations for the hearing in mid-October, which is due to be held in Munich. Meanwhile, I've got some research-related tasks for my insurance arbitration that need to be progressed in the next couple of weeks. I guess it’s nice to feel wanted!

I returned from my vacation in the States last Thursday, several pounds heavier after indulging in a few too many pancake breakfasts, but also pretty relaxed and ready for whatever work would be thrown at me...

A new week and two new cases come hurtling my way. Case number one is an insurance arbitration, sited in Bermuda. Bermuda law is pretty similar to English law, so I am in the hot seat to turn around a response to the Notice of Arbitration issued to our client a couple of weeks ago...

Well, at least I didn't disgrace myself in the 5K race last Thursday—I managed to run it in 22:12, which was the fastest time from the WilmerHale team. It is all relative of course, this isn't the start of a somewhat implausible late-blossoming career in athletics, but it was nice to get a good time (for me!)...

Before I start this blogging adventure, I guess I should introduce myself. I grew up in Ireland and then moved to England to study History as an undergraduate at Oxford University...
