DC has a reputation as being a bit behind the times when it comes to things other metropolitan areas have enjoyed for decades. The District of Columbia existed for approximately 180 years before its citizens were able to convince Congress that the District might need a bit more leeway in organizing and conducting its local affairs.

In my previous post, I lamented the end of the summer program, and reminisced about the by-gone days of fancy lunches, happy hours, meticulously planned excursions paid for by the firm, and extra help on some of my cases. I am coming out of the fog of the summer program, and have now focused my eyes on a new horizon.

Every year around this time I get a little sad. By the end of July, the DC heat is still with us (sigh), but the summer associates are not. We just finished up the summer associate program in the DC office, and I am sorry to see them go.

A few days ago I called my law school roommate [names have been removed to protect the innocent] to catch up, because I noticed that I was no longer able to casually keep updated with his life through Facebook. I was quite upset that I actually had to pick up the phone, because I have become quite content with keeping track of my friends via social networking.
