Monday mornings can always be a bit rough especially after a nice and relaxing weekend. My Monday morning last week got a bit rougher when the partner on one of my patent cases informed me that I would be flying out to California that week to take a couple of depositions. I’ll never say no to depositions but sometimes it’s nice to have more warning. ...

I was looking forward to a relatively chill week, but that plan quickly went out the window thanks to some scheduling issues on one of my cases. Originally, I was just supposed to help out with some legal research for a reply brief on one of my patent cases. Mid-way through the week I got a call from the partner who said that the person who was supposed to write the brief was tied up on some other issues and then I heard that all too familiar line, “and since you’ve already done the research, why don’t you just write the brief?” ...

I have spent the last week desperately trying to recover from the hideous cold that I got from having way too much fun in Germany. Unfortunately, all of the Vitamin C infused drinks just isn’t doing the trick. My husband is a big believer in eating as much as humanly possible when one is sick so he keeps making me mounds of scrambled eggs in the morning and gallons of lentil soup for dinner. ...

Well, I have returned from the wonderful land of sauerkraut, wiener schnitzel, and of course, beer. My Oktoberfest vacation also gave me a great souvenir – a wicked cold. Oh well, it was worth it! ...

Last week was one of those weeks where I found myself wearing a suit everyday. This is particularly annoying for me because I only have about 3 suits -- and they weren’t exactly clean to start with! One day involved attending a grand jury proceeding, another day required driving across the state for a hearing and the last day entailed visiting a prisoner in jail. ...

This weekend I got to attend what every spouse/significant other dreads – the family reunion. These are particularly challenging for me because they involve about 100 relatives that I can’t keep track of, occur usually at some campsite in Quebec and everyone speaks French. ...

Well, it’s back to reality now that summer is unofficially over. My Labor Day weekend began with a delightful reality check – sailing to Plymouth with my husband and his racing buddy, John. In the spirit of marital compromise, I agreed to sail down to Plymouth with the two of them on Sunday but take the bus back on Labor Day. I am not a big fan of sailing to begin with – I think every trip is going to be like “The Perfect Storm” and it seems idiotic to spend eight hours sailing to Plymouth when you could drive there in about an hour. ...

I'm beginning to realize how fantastic the last couple of weeks of August are—cases tend to slow down and I've been able to get done all the things that until recently were at the bottom of my to-do list. ...

Well, thank goodness today is Friday because this has been somewhat of an exhausting week—although I’m not quite sure exactly what I accomplished. I watched a ton of Olympics—I know that for sure. And somehow I got sucked into watching the most random sports. ...

This week was one of those weeks that started off totally insane and then became a mini vacation with one phone call. I was madly trying to get all these materials together for my criminal investigation case because we were going to be meeting with the U.S. Attorneys office next week. ...

The horrible heat of Boston has now been replaced by torrential downpours. The cab driver who drove me home last night blamed the rain on a combination of global warming and some hurricanes in the Caribbean. The one upside of the rain is it was a fantastic excuse to stay in bed this morning and not go running. I laid in bed, hit the snooze button about a hundred times, and negotiated with myself on when I would drag myself out of bed … 7:00? Plenty of time to get to work by 8:00 … 7:45? Well, I can get to work by 8:30, that’s still respectable…8:05? Everyone else doesn’t get to work until 9, so can I. ...

The heat has been absolutely unbearable this week in Boston so naturally my husband decided that this was the week we would begin our daily running program. A month and a half of taking summer associates out to decadent lunches and dining on crab cake appetizers and brownie sundae deserts the size of my head has made my cute Ann Taylor pants a bit too tight and I decided that some sort of exercise regime was in order. Despite our combined laziness, my husband and I managed to get up early several days in a row and jog (albeit slowly) along the Charles River. ...
