This will be my final blog post of the summer. Big thanks to all at the Los Angeles office for making us feel welcome and giving us a great experience!

Food. We all need it. Most of us like it. And if you are a summer associate at WilmerHale, you eat a LOT of it. One great thing about being a summer associate here in Los Angeles is the resurgence of downtown LA.

Given the fact that the Los Angeles office is a newer office (it opened in 2007), we are much smaller than some of our east coast counterparts. I love working in a smaller office, as there are only four summers (including me) and 20 attorneys, so within my first week I had met almost everyone in the office.

This week I was lucky enough to attend WilmerHale’s annual Pro Bono Luncheon (though, for those of us in LA, it was a breakfast). One of the reasons I wanted to work at WilmerHale was its commitment to pro bono and community service work. While every firm has an interest in promoting its community service and touting the percentage of folks who participate in pro bono work, at WilmerHale it’s clear that the commitment goes deeper.

I feel very lucky to be working on a few interesting client projects right now. Despite not having a technical background, I’ve been given some work on patent cases, which has been really interesting and intellectually challenging.

Talk about the first day jitters!
Despite the fact that I had worked in legal offices before, I was very nervous before my first day here in the Los Angeles office. My associate mentor reached out to me before I started, but I still wasn’t really sure what to expect.
